How to Register as an IAA Buyer Online

Unlock access to thousands of vehicles available through IAA's nationwide auction marketplace. As a registered IAA buyer, you can bid on a wide variety of inventory, including used vehicles, total-loss vehicles, clear-title, and non-salvage government fleet assets. With locations in all 50 states and convenient online bidding tools, IAA makes it easy to find and purchase the inventory you need.

Before You Get Started

To make registration quick and easy, have the following information available:

  • A valid government-issued ID

  • Business license information (if applicable)

  • Your preferred payment method

You can register using either a mobile device or a desktop computer. For the best experience, we recommend completing registration on a desktop or laptop with a reliable internet connection.

A mobile phone will be required to complete the identity verification step. Once your identity has been verified, you can return to your desktop and continue registration where you left off.

To help avoid interruptions, we recommend staying connected to a stable network throughout the process. Changes in connectivity, such as switching networks or moving between cell towers, may cause your session to time out and require you to restart registration.

1. Create your Account

IAA offers three membership tiers, allowing you to choose the option that fits your needs. Compare the benefits of each tier in the chart below and select your preferred IAA membership.

Enter your primary business type, first name, last name, e-mail, your location, phone number and a password to start the online registration process.  Don’t worry, your primary business type can be changed during the registration process.

Select Your Access

Choose the inventory that best fits your needs:

  • IAA Inventory: Access a wide range of vehicles, including used and damaged former rental units, EVs, specialty equipment, and more.

  • GSA Inventory Only: Bid on retired government fleet vehicles and equipment available through IAA Gov Auctions. To participate in Gov Auctions on IAAI.com you must pre-register with GSAFleet.gov and obtain a 6-character GSA Account number before finalizing your registration.

  • Both: Register for access to both IAA and GSA inventory.

2. Payment

A $225 registration fee is required to bid on all IAA inventory.

The registration fee can be paid by credit card or PayPal. Please note that debit cards are not accepted for registration payments. Once your registration is active, you'll have access to additional payment options for vehicle purchases. Learn more on our How to Pay page.

Registration for IAA Gov Auctions (GSA inventory), however, is completely free. We do require a credit card to be put on file for any ancillary services that are requested.

Tip: To avoid delays, set up autopay and quickly renew your registration fee every year without having to think about it. You can set up auto-renewal and your preferred payment method from your Auction Center under Profile and Membership Payments. Your account must be active and all required licenses and ID’s must be up to date to use this feature.

Complete Your Profile

Once you’ve finalized your access and set up payment, you’ll be asked to finalize the business type that best describes you, primary activity, preferred language, location and to confirm your mobile number to make sure you are enabled for future account notifications including negotiation offers, pre-bid outbids, to be paid or to be picked up- and more.

3. Selecting a Business Type

  • Individual (Public) Buyers

Individual Buyers can bid at auctions that are open to the public (varies by state) and on vehicles that can be sold to the public. Visit the IAA Help Center to view a list of public buyer state-by-state eligibility.

If you are in a state that does not permit public buying, you will be prompted to either continue registration confirming you are aware that you cannot bid in your state and must find a broker who can help you purchase inventory, or upgrade to a business account.

Note: Buyers can check the ‘Who Can Bid’ list found on the drop-down menu in Bid Information on Vehicle Detail Pages to confirm that the vehicle is available for public purchase. GSA inventory is open to all public buyers in all states.

  • Licensed Business Buyers

As a Business Buyer you can bid at auctions on inventory where your business license meets state requirements.

4. Verify Your Identity

Quickly scan and upload your ID by following the automated prompts. You can select your preferred language at the start of the process at the start of the verification or at any point during the verification. The verification step can take between 15 and 30 seconds.

Accepted ID’s may vary depending on your country. Please review the list of accepted documents by country if you have any questions regarding approved ID documents.

Please note: If you don’t consent to use the automated identity verification, then you will need to verify your identity another way.

Resale Certificates (for Sales Tax Exemption)

While some states issue an annual resale certificate, others require us to collect the state-issued tax license, and the resale form approved by the state, for us to allow tax exemption. Those states that do not issue a tax license, but charge sales tax at the point of sale, still require us to collect the state-approved resale form in order to allow tax exemption.

  • Resale Certificates for sales tax exemption can be completed at a later date. Please note, buyer is responsible for providing payment by due date and submitting needed resale certificate to be sales-tax exempt.
